The UKEESS Software House team is currently looking for a Trainee/Junior Java Engineer to join our team for a full-time position (remotely in Ukraine or in Lviv’s office).

With more than 30 billion digitized global historical records, 100 million family trees, and 18+ million people in their growing database, our customer helps people discover their family stories and gain actionable insights about their health and wellness.
About the team:
Our future colleague will be part of a team working on services for processing data from various sources, such as mobile applications, frontends, and third-party integrations. These services are part of a global system for creating and managing user family trees, which consists of a large number of microservice applications. This allows users to build complex family trees, connect with other users, communicate, and receive information about potential relatives. The team works on and is responsible for the backend part of processing all requests and data related to these functions, ensuring scalability, performance, and a seamless user experience.

Responsibilities will include: * Develop and maintain scalable backend applications focused on microservices architecture * Design, implement, and optimize RESTful APIs and web services * Ensure high performance, reliability, and security of applications * Participate in all stages of the development lifecycle, including code reviews, automated testing, and deployment processes
Requirements: * 0,5 — 1,5 years of experience with Java * Solid understanding of Java 17+ features (records, pattern matching, sealed classes, etc.) * Proficiency in OOP principles * Strong knowledge of the Java Collections Framework * Multithreading and concurrent programming understanding * Commercial experience with Spring Framework (Boot, MVC, WebFlux) * Strong knowledge and experience with SQL databases (MySQL is preferable) * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering * English: at least Strong-intermediate (both spoken and written)
It will be a plus: * Experience with CI/CD * Knowledge or experience with JUnit, Mockito * Experience with Redis for caching and real-time data handling * Docker containerization experience * Experience building and maintaining microservices * Large-scale system experience * Basic knowledge of AWS cloud services * Experience with message brokers such as Kafka for event-driven architecture * Experience building reactive and non-blocking APIs with Spring WebFlux
