We are looking for a Senior Python/Django Backend Engineer to join us as part of our team. About the role As a Senior Python/Django Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building and evolving an AI-native platform that automates residential real estate transaction coordination in the US market.
You will join an existing production system and help take it to the next level of reliability, scalability, and functionality. You will work on core backend infrastructure, database architecture, third-party integrations, workflow automation, and AI-powered features — from strengthening the PostgreSQL and worker architecture to integrating e-signatures, improving the email layer, and building the backend for a voice-driven contract drafting agent.
The platform streamlines the entire workflow following a real estate contract: automatically processing executed contract packages, splitting multi-document PDFs into individual exhibits, enforcing state-specific compliance requirements, extracting structured transaction data, and calculating complex contingency deadlines.
This is an opportunity to own backend features end to end and solve complex technical challenges in a product where reliability, data integrity, tenant isolation, and human oversight are critical.
Our stack
Python, Django, Gunicorn, PostgreSQL, SQLite, psycopg, AWS (ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3, SQS, SES, Secrets Manager, ECR, CloudWatch, WAF), Docker, ALB, IAM, CI/CD. As a qualified expert You will * Build and ship backend features end to end — design, implementation, tests, review, deploy. * Take the platform from SQLite-friendly to production PostgreSQL: schema parity on a disposable database, cutover rehearsal with row counts and sequence and FK verification, concurrency under overlapping writers, and rollback. * Implement reliable singleton or lease-based ownership for the heartbeat worker before the platform scales horizontally, and separate it from the admin API service. * Integrate DocuSign: envelope creation, signer mapping, signature requests, webhooks, status tracking, completed-document handling, follow-ups, and explicit failure and retry behavior. * Harden the email layer — inbound thread and attachment resolution to the right transaction, template-and-slot outbound generation behind a deterministic recipient and content gate, review and approval queues, delivery outcome tracking. * Keep tenant isolation and authority intact across every query, credential, export and integration — action-scoped RBAC, approvals, human review gates, and an append-only audit trail that keeps AI recommendations, deterministic findings, human decisions and external writebacks distinguishable. * Move prompt and model configuration out of hard-coded Python into the existing prompt registry and model router, without changing verifier behavior. * Build the backend for the contract drafting agent: structured offer data from a voice conversation, draft generation against the same form ontology the compliance engine uses, validation before anything reaches a human, explicit approval, handoff into the existing workflow. * Write and maintain the tests that matter here — the application suite plus a PostgreSQL integration suite against a disposable DSN, plus contract tests covering every registered mutation. * Instrument the things that break at 3am: health, error rate, worker heartbeat age, queue age and retry depth, provider failures, pool saturation, slow queries.
We’re looking for you if you have * 5+ years of professional experience with Python and strong hands-on experience with Django. * Deep knowledge of Django beyond REST/CRUD development, including ORM behavior under load, migrations, transactions, management commands, and background processing. * Strong production experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, query analysis and optimization, connection pooling, transactions, locking, advisory locks, and concurrent database access. * Hands-on experience with AWS services such as ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3, SQS, SES, Secrets Manager, IAM, ECR, and CloudWatch. * Proficiency in Docker and experience with container-based application deployment and releases. * Proven experience building and operating integrations with third-party APIs that you do not control, including signed webhooks, idempotency, retries, reconciliation of missed events, and explicit failure handling. * Experience designing and maintaining multi-tenant applications with tenant-scoped data access, role-based authorization, and audit trails. * Strong understanding of backend architecture, asynchronous processing, data integrity, reliability, and production troubleshooting. * A proven ability to own backend functionality end to end, from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support. * A strong engineering mindset and the ability to make sound technical decisions in systems where reliability, security, and data consistency are critical. * English — Upper-Intermediate or higher; Ukrainian — fluent/native.
Bonus points * Experience with PDF processing and OCR pipelines, especially AWS Textract. * Production experience integrating LLMs, including structured output validation, prompt versioning, model/provider fallback, and cost optimization. * Experience with DocuSign or other e-signature APIs. * Experience designing document or workflow state machines. * Previous experience working in compliance-heavy domains such as legal, fintech, insurance, or healthcare. * Experience with voice, speech-to-text, or conversational AI pipelines. * Experience working with AI-powered automation where human review and approval are part of the workflow. * Familiarity with observability and production monitoring practices for distributed backend systems.
