We are looking for a Core Functionality Engineer to join our R&D team focused on autopilot development, flight control systems, and embedded real-time algorithms for autonomous drones.
You will work at the intersection of embedded engineering, flight dynamics, control theory, and sensor fusion, contributing directly to the flight behaviour, stability, and performance of our platforms.
This is a full-time position with the option to work on-site in Berlin, hybrid, or remotely from Europe. Key Responsibilities * Develop, maintain, and optimize autopilot modules in C/C++. * Implement and refine control algorithms; integrate them with onboard systems. * Work with CMake/make build environments; profile and optimize embedded code. * Design, simulate, and test flight dynamics, kinematics, and control models. * Apply signal-processing methods: FIR/IIR filters, smoothing/averaging, sensor fusion. * Collaborate with hardware, aerodynamics, and embedded teams to tune flight performance. * Conduct real flight testing, analyze telemetry and logs, and improve stability/robustness. * Contribute to architecture decisions for core flight software.
Requirements * Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with C/C++, CMake, make. * Understanding of control theory, mechanics, dynamics, and kinematics. * Basic experience with signal processing (FIR/IIR, noise reduction, smoothing). * Proficiency in vector algebra and coordinate transformations. * Familiarity with Kalman filtering (sensor fusion, state estimation). * Experience in embedded development (ARMv7, Cortex-Mx or similar). * Knowledge of aerodynamics and/or experience in real-flight testing is a strong plus. * Experience with Ardupilot, Betaflight, PX4 or similar open-source autopilot stacks is highly valued. * Personal projects such as building your own autopilot, flight controller, or custom drone are a significant advantage.
Nice to Have * Experience with simulation tools (Gazebo, SITL, AirSim, FlightGear). * Understanding of flight logging, telemetry pipelines, and real-time monitoring. * Passion for drones, robotics, open-source autopilots, and hands-on flight experiments.
We Offer * Competitive compensation depending on experience and contribution. * Work with cutting-edge defence and autonomous drone technologies. * Direct influence on core flight software architecture and system behaviour. * Collaboration with a strong R&D team of engineers and test pilots. * Opportunity to shape the next generation of autonomous UAV systems.
