About the Project
You’ll join a long-term engagement with a London-based client operating one of the world’s largest financial market infrastructure platforms.
The product processes mission-critical financial data and requires high availability, scalability, performance, and reliability. The engineering team works closely with product stakeholders on new functionality, architectural improvements, and AI-driven capabilities that support business operations and engineering productivity.
This is a role for engineers who enjoy complex backend systems, distributed architectures, and solving real business problems rather than building CRUD applications.
We are looking for a Java AI Engineer who: * enjoys building complex backend systems with Java; * actively uses AI coding agents and modern AI engineering tools in everyday work; * takes ownership of technical decisions and product outcomes; * communicates confidently with clients and business stakeholders; * likes understanding business problems before writing code; * wants to work on systems that operate at enterprise scale.
Responsibilities * Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java applications. * Build scalable backend services using Spring Boot and modern cloud technologies. * Design APIs, asynchronous workflows, and distributed system components. * Actively participate in architectural discussions and drive technical decision-making. * Partner directly with clients, product owners, and stakeholders to analyze business requirements, estimate efforts, and identify technical risks. * Integrate AI capabilities and AI-powered workflows where they bring measurable value. * Apply standard software engineering principles and best practices. * Ensure code quality through rigorous code reviews, pair programming, and proactive collaboration with the engineering team
Requirements * 5+ years of commercial software development experience, primarily with Java. * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. * Experience building mission-critical, data-intensive applications. Strong conceptual and architectural understanding of Event-Driven systems, SBA, CQRS, and Event Sourcing is essential. * Exceptional knowledge of Java Core (modern Concurrency, Streams API) and Spring stack (Core, JPA, Security), alongside Hibernate, SQL, and PostgreSQL. * Hands-on experience with AWS (S3, Aurora, Lambda, Step Functions preferred) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm). * Comprehensive approach to Quality & Performance: experience with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers), profiling tools (Visual VM), and performance testing (JMeter). * Product Ownership Mindset: Strong analytical skills, ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, and excellent communication for direct client collaboration. * Daily, high-output use of AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar) is an essential part of how we work. We’re looking for engineers who already rely on AI to design, implement, debug, and review software more efficiently. * English — Upper-Intermediate (B2+) or higher. Ukrainian — Native.
Nice to Have * Commercial Python development experience. * Experience as a Full Stack Engineer (React preferred). * AWS certifications. * Anthropic AI certification or other AI engineering certifications. * Experience with cloud AI services and LLM integrations.
