Our recruitment agency is partnering with a fast-growing international B2B SaaS company to hire a Tech Lead for the Core Platform team. This team powers the organisation’s mobile and web SDKs, high-performance APIs, large-scale analytics ingestion, and robust media processing pipelines used by major global brands, including numerous sports organisations. About the Company & Product The company is building an AI-native, multi-product platform that enables clients to embed short-form video experiences directly into their digital products, boosting engagement, retention, and monetisation.
The Core Platform is central to this ecosystem and is responsible for: * delivering performant APIs for mobile and web SDKs, * handling 60+ million analytics events per day, * managing reliable media processing and delivery, * supporting a mature production system used by 40–50 enterprise customers in the sports domain.
Although the platform has been in production for five years, the engineering organisation is committed to staying modern. Upcoming initiatives include a migration to .NET 10 and moving the media-processing stack to a flexible, container-based architecture. Responsibilities:Own outcomes, not tickets * Lead a squad of 2–4 engineers (mix of senior/junior) to generate measurable product impact. * Define clear goals and success metrics (latency, reliability, adoption), break work into small reversible slices, and maintain a consistent shipping cadence.
Design and build production systems * Architect and implement .NET services and APIs backed by SQL Server within a multi-tenant SaaS environment. * Make pragmatic engineering trade-offs: idempotent writes, rate limiting, caching/ETag strategies, indexing, query shaping, back-pressure management, and resilient failure-mode handling.
Operate what you build * Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces; maintain strong p95/p99 performance and availability SLOs. * Run structured incident reviews and drive systemic improvements (documentation, runbooks, dashboards).
Prioritise based on business impact * Partner with Product, Design, and Customer teams to translate goals into executable scope. * Re-sequence or trim work when data changes; keep stakeholders aligned with concise updates, risks, and ownership clarity.
Create clarity and accountability * Set explicit expectations with direct reports, provide candid feedback, and follow through with support and check-ins. * Use lightweight process tools—PR templates, decision records, checklists—to make accountability routine and scalable.
Grow people and the codebase * Mentor engineers through pairing, reviews, and 1:1s; create growth plans and celebrate progress. * Maintain high engineering standards: meaningful tests, clear interfaces, intentional and controlled technical debt management.
Leverage AI effectively * Use AI tools to accelerate boilerplate and documentation; validate outputs with tests and metrics. * Promote safe practices: no secrets, anonymised data, prompt discipline, simple evaluation workflows.
Collaborate across the product suite * Work closely with iOS/Android/Web SDK teams to ensure backend APIs are stable, predictable, and well-documented. * Support enterprise integrations—often in the sports domain—balancing reliability with delivery speed.
Support hiring and onboarding * Contribute to interviews, evaluation rubrics, and hiring decisions. * Provide structured onboarding with clear goals, documentation, and early first-week wins.
Qualifications:Must-haves * Technical leadership: experience leading a team of 2–4 engineers to deliver production software end-to-end. * Practical problem-solving: working from constraints, evaluating options, making trade-offs explicit, and choosing the smallest reversible step. Clear, direct communication: crisp expectations, concise PRs/decision records, and kind-but-candid feedback. * Ownership & accountability: finishing hard problems, improving systems (tests, telemetry, docs), and embedding accountability into routine practice. * Flexibility & product sense: ability to cut scope to hit outcomes, re-prioritise quickly, and keep stakeholders aligned. * Learning mindset & AI fluency: quick adoption of new tools (including AI assistants), validated through testing and metrics with strong attention to privacy and data safety.
Nice to have: * Cloud & infra experience: Azure (or equivalent), CI/CD pipelines, feature flags, safe rollouts/rollbacks. * Background in media/SaaS, SDKs, or high-throughput event ingestion. * Strong C# / .NET expertise (especially .NET 8+), including Web APIs (Minimal APIs or controllers). * Advanced SQL Server knowledge: schema design, indexing, query shaping, concurrency (transactions, isolation levels, deadlocks, idempotency). * Interest in sport and fan engagement (helpful but not required).
If you’re passionate about leading engineering teams, scaling high-performance backend systems, and contributing to next-generation interactive video experiences, we’d be delighted to discuss this opportunity with you.
