We are seeking a Senior Payments Architect / Consultant to review our client’s current architecture, identify blind spots, guide scaling strategies, and provide expertise in vendor evaluation and promotions engine design. This is a strategic, consulting-oriented role with the opportunity for selective hands-on implementation support.
Project — Our client is a global leader in online education, partnering with top universities and organizations to deliver courses, professional certificates, and degree programs to over 100 million learners worldwide. The client has built most of its payment platform in-house and recently migrated from Braintree to Stripe as the primary provider, while also using Razorpay in India. The next key objective is to scale the payments infrastructure and integrate additional local payment providers, particularly in Brazil and Mexico, while enhancing subscription flows and promotions capabilities.
Must have: * Strong expertise with Stripe and proven success in complex payment integrations * Hands-on experience with other processors such as Adyen, PayPal, Razorpay, DLocal, etc. * Deep understanding of subscription flows, upgrades, free trials, and in-app purchases * Knowledge of promotions/discount engines and gift card systems * Excellent communication skills with the ability to present architectural recommendations to leadership * Consulting mindset: proactive in surfacing risks, identifying solutions, and driving decisions * Collaborative and able to integrate smoothly into a distributed, cross-functional global team * Upper-Intermediate English or higher
Good to have: * Experience scaling global payments platforms with thousands of SKUs * Familiarity with fraud prevention, reconciliation, and refunds workflows * Strong background in system architecture for high-volume transactions * Cloud expertise with AWS or GCP
Responsibilities: * Conduct a comprehensive review of the current payments architecture, highlighting blind spots, scalability risks, and optimization opportunities * Advise on the integration of local payment providers across LATAM, EU, and India (e.g., DLocal, Razorpay) * Guide vendor selection and share best practices to improve payment success rates and reliability * Provide input on promotions engine strategy (build vs. buy) and assist with high-level design * Optionally support implementation efforts in the codebase and architecture improvements
