We’re seeking an experienced Architect to join our team on a part-time basis (around 4 hours per day) for 3 months.
You’ll work hands-on with our engineering teams to evaluate and evolve our current architecture at the code level, ensuring we’re enterprise-ready as we scale to serve major retail clients. This role combines strategic architectural guidance with deep technical implementation review across our web application and data engineering stacks.
What is this project about?
Our client helps retail partners optimize product placement and inventory distribution to maximize sales. They ingest customer data to generate demand forecasts, which feed into an optimizer that determines where to distribute inventory.

Requirments * 3+ years of software architecture experience with a proven track record of scaling applications to the enterprise level * Deep expertise in Node.js/TypeScript — microservices architecture, performance optimization, enterprise patterns * Strong Python background — architectural patterns, data processing at scale * Production experience with our core technologies — Kafka, Redis, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Vue.js * Enterprise-scale database architecture — PostgreSQL optimization, data warehousing patterns * AWS architecture expertise — designing for high availability, scalability, and security * Experience conducting architectural assessments and code reviews at the implementation level * Proven ability to work with engineering teams to implement architectural improvements- Strong communication skills for presenting findings and recommendations to technical stakeholders in written and spoken formats
Preferred * Snowflake architecture and optimization experience * Experience helping startups scale into enterprise environments, especially during large client onboarding. * Knowledge of security architecture and compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001, GDPR).
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Assessment & Guidance * Conduct a comprehensive review of our web application and data engineering architecture, identifying critical gaps. * Evaluate and improve implementation details at the code level (Node.js, Python, SQL-heavy workflows).
Scaling & Enterprise Readiness * Design and recommend solutions for scalability, reliability, and high performance, particularly across PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, and Snowflake. * Address data consistency issues (e.g., PostgreSQL → OpenSearch latency affecting UX). * Create strategies for onboarding large customers, including schema synchronization, deployment migration, and data lifecycle management.
Hands-On Technical Involvement * Provide practical guidance on performance-critical areas such as bulk data ingestion, job processing, and caching. * Collaborate with engineers on refactoring critical components and improving code quality.
Cloud & Cost Optimization * Partner with AWS Solutions Architects to align high-level architecture with implementation. * Review AWS infrastructure usage (S3, RDS, EC2, Kafka, Redis) and implement cost-optimization strategies without compromising reliability.
Team Enablement & Documentation * Mentor engineers on architectural decision-making and best practices. * Produce clear, actionable documentation for enterprise-readiness improvements.
