Data Architect (GCP-focused)
Location: Remote
Type: Contract

At Sphere, we blend global expertise with local insight to help organizations turn complex ideas into real, scalable solutions. We’re currently seeking a Data Architect with strong experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to help our clients build modern, efficient, and secure data platforms. Experience with AI/ML is a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement data architectures on GCP, using services like BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Vertex AI (optional).
* Build scalable data pipelines and data models to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to define data strategy, architecture standards, and best practices.
* Optimize storage, query performance, and data processing workflows for scalability and cost-efficiency.
* Ensure data quality, governance, and security across systems.
* Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies within the GCP ecosystem.
* Support AI/ML teams (if applicable) by architecting data flows for training and inference.
Requirements:
* 4+ years of experience in data architecture, engineering, or analytics roles.
* 2+ years of experience with GCP and its data services (BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, etc.).
* Strong experience in SQL, Python, and data modeling.
* Knowledge of data lake and data warehouse architectures.
* Familiarity with CI/CD, Terraform or other IaC tools.
* Ability to design end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion to reporting/ML serving.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with clients and technical teams.
Nice to Have:
* Experience with AI/ML platforms (e.g., Vertex AI, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
* Knowledge of other cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
* Experience with Databricks or Apache Spark.
* Familiarity with data governance tools and practices.
