About the Role Kitrum is seeking a Lead/Senior Data Engineer to lead one of our most strategic client engagements — the transformation of a global data infrastructure into a unified, governed, and scalable cloud platform based on Microsoft Fabric and Purview.
You’ll serve as the Team Lead of 4 people and technical owner for this program, working closely with our external partner engineers and stakeholders across procurement, data governance, and platform leadership.
This is not just a technical role — it’s a strategic leadership position where you’ll help shape platform design, enforce architectural standards, ensure governance alignment, and support the pilot rollout in Switzerland and Italy, then scale globally across multiple markets. Must-Have Skills: * 5+ years in backend or data engineering roles, with hands-on experience in cloud-based data systems. * Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, especially Azure Data Lake, Fabric SQL, Data Factory, or Synapse. * Experience building lakehouse or data mesh style architectures. * Familiarity with data governance principles and integration of cataloging and lineage tools (e.g., Purview). * Strong English communication skills — able to work effectively across distributed teams. * Experience with AWS Glue, Delta Lake, or Databricks is a plus (to understand legacy environments).
Will be a strong plus: * Solid coding and scripting skills in Python, SQL, or PySpark. * Experience supporting large platform re-architecture or migration from Synapse/Databricks to Fabric. * Experience supporting migration projects from Databricks, AWS Glue, or Synapse to Fabric. * Familiarity with Purview APIs, custom lineage extraction, or open-source governance tooling. * Understanding of Purview roadmap, limitations, and complementary tooling (e.g. open-source lineage tools). * Strong technical writing skills: diagramming, documenting frameworks, and architectural justification.
Responsibilities: Platform Implementation * Build and maintain core components of the data platform using Microsoft Fabric, Fabric SQL, and Azure Data Lake Gen2. * Develop reusable data pipelines, ingestion patterns, and templates aligned with platform standards. * Support development of data products in line with data mesh principles and domain ownership.
Collaboration & Delivery * Collaborate with architects, delivery leads, and client stakeholders to translate architectural designs into functional components. * Provide technical guidance to mid-level developers and review key implementation work. * Participate in design discussions and contribute feedback to improve technical approaches.
Governance Integration * Implement access controls, data lineage tracking, and quality checks in accordance with governance guidelines. * Ensure development aligns with Purview policies and platform-wide metadata standards.
Documentation & Support * Maintain technical documentation: code annotations, component-level diagrams, and knowledge base entries. * Assist in onboarding new developers and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
Work Conditions * Work schedule: standard working day (flexible from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m EMEA time zone., Mon. to Fri.); * Fully Remote: This role offers the flexibility to work from anywhere.
